Acedb is a genome database system developed since 1989 primarily by Jean Thierry-Mieg (CNRS, Montpellier) and Richard Durbin (Sanger Centre). It provides a custom database kernel, with a non-standard data model designed specifically for handling scientific data flexibly, and a graphical user interface with many specific displays and tools for genomic data. Acedb is used both for managing data within genome projects, and for making genomic data available to the wider scientific community.

SAGE is a powerful tool that allows the analysis of overall gene expression patterns with digital analysis. Because SAGE does not require a preexisting clone, it can be used to identify and quantitate new genes as well as known genes. As detailed in the Findings and References page, SAGE has been instrumental in a variety of important discoveries.

Textco, Inc.
Textco's Gene Construction Kit 2 is an unique DNA manipulation, cloning design, and illustration tool. GCK2 provides a way to manipulate DNA sequences with an intuitive graphical interface -- the way biologists think about and illustrate their cloning projects. The Gene Inspector 1.5 combines a sophisticated sequence analysis package with a scientific laboratory notebook. By combining analyses with a powerful notebook, Textco has provided the ability to keep related information in a single location for the first time. Analysis Setups provide a way to define an analysis (or multiple analyses) with all its parameters and to save it as a menu item for future use. This means that everyone in the group will be able to get consistent results.
