A Really Friendly Guide To Wavelets Update Link / Bad Link?
A good tutorial on Wavelet theory. This article is aimed at the engineer, not the mathematician. Hence, there are no proofs in the text, which means that this tutorial is much easier to read. However, to understand this tutorial, a mathematical background on an engineering level is required.

Wavelet Image Compression Construction Kit Update Link / Bad Link?
This code implements a wavelet transform-based image coder for grayscale images. The coder is not the most sophisticated - it's a simple transform coder - but each individual piece of the transform coder has been chosen for high performance. The coder is quite effective, despite its lack of more sophisticated features such as zerotrees. It is designed to be a foundation upon which more sophisticated coders can be built- there's no need to reinvent the wheel if you're working on only one aspect of the coding process.

A Wavelet Wading Pool Update Link / Bad Link?
The paper attempts to give a beginner an understanding of the wavelet transform, by practical application of the wavelet techniques to image compression. The Haar Wavelets are considered and applied to this problem, and the difficulties analyzed. In an attempt to change the artifacts seen in the Haar decomposition, a basis proposed by Richard Bartels is applied and experimented with as well. Both bases turn out to introduce too many artifacts into the image to challenge the JPEG encoding, but the COE basis produces better results than the Haar basis as expected.
