Optimization is an important and expanding area that helps engineers and scientists find improved solutions to their problems. MATLAB and the Optimization Toolbox provide powerful capabilities for optimization with robust algorithms for general and large-scale optimization, linear programming, quadratic programming, nonlinear equations, and more.

GAOT implements simulated evolution in the MATLAB environment using both binary and real representations. Ordered base representation has also been added to the toolbox. This implementation is very flexible in the genetic operators, selection functions, termination functions as well as the evaluation functions that can be used. The implementation is described in a technical paper.

Update Link / Bad Link? |

There seems to be much unmet demand for a GA routine in MATLAB, so I'll make mine available. It's easy to use, as its syntax is fairly close to MATLAB's fmins routine. It works, but I can't make any claims for sophistication (hey, I'm an economist, not a computer scientist, and I don't follow the GA literature closely).

Update Link / Bad Link? |
|
Lazy learning (Aha, 1997) is a memory-based technique that postpones all the computation until an explicit request for a prediction is received. The request is fulfilled by interpolating locally the examples considered relevant according to a distance measure. Each prediction requires therefore a local modeling procedure that can be seen as composed of a structural and of a parametric identification.

| Genetic Search Toolbox
|
Update Link / Bad Link? |
|
The Genetic Search Toolbox provides an integrated environment for formulating and carrying out genetic searches. The toolbox contains commands for creating, manipulating, and destroying chromosomes, managing chromosome populations, selecting chromosomes based on a variety of criteria, and obtaining population statistics.
